Elephants

Desert elephants (Ugab River) (Loxodonta africana)

These desert-adapted elephants range up and down the mostly-dry river bed checking out waterholes. Even if there has been no water in a particular location for many years, the adults lead the calves there so that the young animals learn the routes to where water may be available.

Elephants (Etosha) The Etosha elephants have a somewhat easier life. Namibian elephants tend to have short or broken tusks because their diet lacks calcium.
