Amman, Jordan, Citadel Photo Gallery

The Amman Citadel on Jebel al Qala'a, the highest hill in Amman, is the site of ancient Rabbath-Amman. Artifacts found here date from the Bronze Age, the Iron Age, and the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods. The Umayyad Palace, built around 720 C.E., is behind the excellent National Archeological Museum. The museum has three of the Ain Ghazal statues, from 6500 B.C.E., and some of the Dead Sea scrolls.
